Portrait of Knife Dance outside Parliament Tattoo, London, fine line and dark fantasy tattoo artist.

Tattoo Artist Features & Tattoo Press Coverage – Knife Dance London

Kat, known professionally as Knife Dance, is a London-based dark fantasy tattoo artist and fine illustrator whose work blends fine line, blackwork, and macabre storytelling. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Kat brings over a decade of creative practice spanning tattooing, printmaking, apparel, and illustration.

Her distinct visual language draws from gothic folklore, medieval symbolism, occult mysticism, and fantasy video games, creating work that is both intricate and narrative-led. Kat has collaborated with brands including Liquid Death and The Great Frog, with her tattoo art featured in Brut Magazine and other editorial outlets.

She was selected to take part in an international AC/DC fan tattoo event, where artists were invited to create free tattoos funded by the band as part of a global celebration of their tour. Kat also exhibited her work at Hole’s ‘Pretty on the Inside’ 30th anniversary—a special showcase honouring the legacy of the iconic album through visual art.

Now working from Parliament Tattoo in London, Kat is available for press features, artist collaborations, editorial commissions, and other creative projects.

On January 21st, 2025, I was invited to speak on BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine Show in a segment titled “Trump and Tattoos.” The episode centred around Jeremy’s own experience getting his first tattoo at the age of 59, and opened up a broader conversation about why increasing numbers of people are choosing to get tattooed later in life. During the interview, I shared my perspective as a tattoo artist explaining how the stigma that once surrounded tattoos has significantly faded over recent years.

Many older clients now feel more open to self-expression through body art, influenced by their children’s generation and the growing visibility of tattoos in everyday life. I also touched on the fact that, as we age, we often become more confident, comfortable in our identities, and willing to embrace long-held desires without fear of judgment. It was an insightful and humorous conversation that highlighted the evolving cultural role of tattoos—not just as fashion or rebellion, but as personal storytelling, at any stage of life.

As one of the featured artists with Parliament Tattoo, I offered free AC/DC flash tattoos to fans during the multi-day celebration, set inside a custom-built “High Voltage Dive Bar.”

The event brought together music, merchandise, and live tattooing in an immersive rock experience, with fans queuing up to receive band-funded tattoos from a curated group of artists. My work channeled the energy of heavy metal iconography through fine line blackwork and bold symbolic design, paying tribute to AC/DC’s legacy while reaching a new generation of collectors and fans.

As part of an ongoing collaboration with Black Letter Press, I was commissioned to illustrate the cover for their special edition of Egder Allan Poe's 'The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym' —a gothic novel steeped in mysticism, folklore, and horror. This was the first of three illustrated book covers I’ve created for the publisher, followed by The Vampyre and The Golem.

Each project allowed me to explore classic literary horror through a visual lens, using my background in dark fantasy illustration, fine line detailing, and symbolic composition to create immersive artwork that complements each title’s unique tone. These collector’s editions are part of Black Letter Press’s celebrated range of hand-bound, limited-run classics—designed for readers who appreciate the beauty of dark literature and fine craftsmanship.

I was commissioned by Liquid Death to illustrate the front of one of their custom artist-designed packaging boxes. Each box in the series features exclusive artwork from international illustrators and tattoo artists, with mine centered around the box’s circular cutout that reveals the aluminium can inside.

For this design, I imagined the cutout as the mouth of a cave—drawing a thirst-crazed skeleton crawling toward the can in desperation. The piece reflects my signature themes of dark fantasy, macabre illustration, and fine line blackwork, combining atmospheric storytelling with stark, symbolic visuals.

The final box was distributed through thousands of retailers across the U.S., and also featured prominently at publicity events, music festivals, and branded experiences, giving the artwork wide exposure as part of Liquid Death’s cult following and creative branding campaigns.

I was invited to participate in Parliament Tattoo’s “Pretty on the Inside” exhibition, a group show marking the 30th anniversary of Courtney Love’s debut album with Hole. Curated in collaboration with Courtney Love, the exhibition featured 30 international tattoo artists, each contributing original works inspired by the album’s raw, feminist, and confrontational themes.

For the show, I created a large A1 illustration depicting a decaying skeleton entwined with dying lilies and spiderwebs—a piece rooted in my signature aesthetic of macabre symbolism, fine line anatomical detail, and gothic botanical imagery.

All profits from artwork sales were donated to two women’s charities selected by Courtney Love: Treasures Foundation and Clean Break, supporting women overcoming addiction, abuse, and the criminal justice system.
